Led by eminent SF songwriter Cameron Ember on vocals and rhythm guitar, with former Red House Painters Anthony Koutsos behind the drum kit, Michael Papenburg on lead guitar and Greg Merriman on bass, the band quickly rose to prominence playing to enthusiastic crowds on the local club circuit. And after just a handful of shows, their highly-melodic, dreamy American indie pop generated a healthy dose of A&R interest and nabbed the attention of renowned San Francisco engineer and producer Damien Rasmussen (Cibo Matto, Four Non Blondes, Dance Hall Crashers, Oranger, etc., etc.). The result: 2009's "idea of Alice", an atmosphere-rich masterwork released on Robot123 Records that somehow pays homage to bands as diverse as Fairport Convention, Led Zeppelin the Cocteau Twins. Ember’s jarringly-sweet, saintly voice is nothing less than riveting, especially when layered over Papenburg's lavish melodies and Koutsos' exacting work on the drums. "idea of Alice" quickly earned rave reviews in the zines and on the blogs that matter, and is already in heavy rotation at college and alternative radio stations across the country. All this, in only one short year of existence. The second release from Tiny Little Blackouts is currently in pproduction. This time, TLB is planning a less-subtle approach to their seductive warp and drift, with a definitively harder sound that travels even higher (and lower) than their debut record. -Jeff Heath wrote this. ******Radio Results from AAMINC April 2010 Wrap-up The following is the wrap-up tracking report for Tiny Little Blackouts Idea Of Alice full-length CD. Thanks for the excellent work! 3rd review: many thanks to Abbey K Davis READ REVIEW HERE "Tiny Little Blackouts is what indie musicians often strive for and fail at, which has turned the genre into a cliche: delightful music with just the right amount of irony...Tiny Little Blackouts say they make music they like and they hope you'll like it, too. They've definitely done their job -you'll love it." 2nd Awesome review now out thanks to Absolute Zero Media Magazine Very nice online zine, please READ REVIEW HERE "Tiny Little Blackouts are making me fall in love with pop music for the 1st time in years." 1st review is out! Thanks to Unpeeled Not sure where the review went but it used to be there, we swear it: "They're from San Francisco and they're adding beautifully disquieting touches to slick indie guitar slow burn on their debut album, "Idea Of Alice"." **************************************** Comprised of experienced San Francisco musicians, Tiny Little Blackouts makes sweet music. It's pretty, but not vacuous, slightly mournful, but not sad or dark. Tiny Little Blackouts, formed in 2009, is 50% sound-based and 50% lyric-driven, with the best comparison based on Cocteau Twins meets Elliot Smith, with some Led Zeppelin thrown in for good measure. We make music we like and we hope you like it too. **************************************** Buying individual mp3s can happen by clicking HERE Instrumental versions are available by request. ********************************************************** This is original, ethereal, atmospheric stuff. Tiny Little Blackouts is highly melodic and structured. Cameron Ember writes words and music. Everybody writes their own parts, though occasionally the specific efforts are collaborative (as they often are in general). Tiny Little Blackouts was formed in 2009 and has released their first album in December. The whole album was made at low cost, relative to Major Labels. Damien Rasmussen engineered and produced, along with Tiny Little Blackouts. "idea of Alice" was recorded in a garage called the Catacombs located off Capp Street in San Francisco. Damien's thing is callled smokeandmirrorsaudio and he has recorded tons of people, including Tom Waits. Chris Mayrena at HyperRaje Productions works on pre-production and also live events. Some of the recent reviews: "Tiny Little Blackouts is what indie musicians often strive for and fail at, which has turned the genre into a clich: delightful music with just the right amount of irony." Abbey K. Davis of Muzikreviews.com From Absolute Zero Media Magazine 1/23/2010 "This is very much a shoegazer meets Dream pop sound that Tiny Little Blackout create. The lush soft but very well sung female vocal with the droney, lazy, bluesy fuzzed out guitars a warm deep bass line and very jazz meets post rock drumming is whats going on. Think bands like Belly, Curve, The Gathering and The Cardigans is all the bands that really come to mind here. Tiny Little Blackouts have a very 60's Pop feeling to the over all sound to what there creating . I'm really impressed by what I'm hearing. The production is monstrous as well " Idea of Alice" as that Phil Spector production to it if you know where I'm going from. This is another label I'm not heard from before on any regular basis but if there material is all like this then more power and send more releases for review as Tiny Little Blackouts are making me fall in love with pop music for the 1st time in years. As I go through this review you know who this band most sounds like to me is when the band LOW has female vocals going on. I finally got to pinpoint the sound I was hearing. Fantastic work here." http://azm-magazine.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-reviews-1232010.html Review from the UK's Unpeeled It's still half-past January and that means that a new edition of 'The Indie Bible' has hit the streets. This is a directory that "contains 4,000 publications from around the world that will review your cd!". All that means to us is a flood of very earnest and very average music from America and this year, we're still going to listen to all of it, but we'll only be reviewing the very bad and the very good and, yes, it's often a fine line, but we'll get really wasted and crack on and... recommend Tiny Little Blackouts. They're from San Francisco and they're adding beautifully disquieting touches to slick indie guitar slow burn on their debut album, "Idea Of Alice". http://unpeeled.net/ Tiny Little Blackouts LYRICS ********************************* ANGRY SANTA when will I learn to see the world as a wondrous place not just a bitter taste, preview of the end angry Santa, don't you believe your own thoughts you were never raised nor taught to live in your head and every song is one drop of blood in the actual fiction or fact think of people living lives they'd never lead of neural pathways that wither and recede swallow, swallow, festering taste in my mouth each bottle I'm better no doubt, tour guide for the dead stomach, stomach, feels like a rock in a vice takes all I have to act nice, like a hemorrhage or missing limb and every song is one drop of blood in the actual fiction or fact think of people living lives they'd never lead of grace and comfort, while the rest of us just bleed (x2) HAPPY IS DEAD FOR NOW we think we might be animals, turning in a mill or higher beings yet, radiant and still biology is a force, makes me forget what was I thinking? seems tragic, and yet... Let's say you went to the Iceland Airwaves Festival and the Blue Lagoon and drove around looking at cute Viking horses and fluffy sheep. Then you headed home on Iceland Air and began listening to the In-Flight Music Channels 1-10. Cameron Ember would most likely be heard on Channel 5, "SMOOTH EASY LISTENING". No, Cameron Ember does not sound like Sting, Rod Stewart or the Goo Goo Dolls, who all have songs played on Channel 5. But Cameron Ember could be played comfortably next to some of the other artists on this channel: Elliott Smith (Punch and Judy), Jeff Buckley (Hallelujah), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Into My Arms), Radiohead (Fake Plastic Trees), Jose Gonzalez (Heartbeats), etc. It would either be Channel 5 or 8, "SOUND GLACIER (New Age), which plays Sigur Ros, Bjork and Enya...probably stick with 5 because of the songwriting. All tracks on the latest 2 Cameron Ember eps were recorded & engineered at home by Cameron Ember. No vocal effect (other than multi-tracking), non-linear editing or pitch correction was used. New Review on CHURCH OF GIRL "What All Schoolchildren Learn" is now for sale on iTunes! Cameron Ember's new album, "What All Schoolchildren Learn/ The Convenience of Fascism" is now available.
